In the Australian Test team, Usman Khawaja is prepared to assume two roles: he will lead the young and gifted opening batsman Sam Konstas while simultaneously trying to score runs at the top of the order.
In the first Test of a three-match series against the West Indies, Usman Khawaja, 38, will begin the innings alongside Konstas, 19. On Wednesday, June 25, the eagerly anticipated match begins at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
It’s an additional role. to attempt to teach Sammy as much as I can in order to support him on his journey. I’m not here to stay. But before the game begins on Wednesday, Khawaja told reporters, “It’s very important that I can do whatever I can, obviously first and foremost, have a solid partnership between us, but then a bit of stability at the top, but also guide him through this journey.”
“I knew when and where he was going to drop and run a quick single, and I was ready for it,” Khawaja responded when asked if he would collaborate with Konstas once more.
With the high-stakes Ashes looming later in the year, Khawaja was thrilled to have the chance to help the young hitter grow as a cricket player.
He’s only 19 years old, so he’s still very young, but it’s exciting. This series is undoubtedly coming up, followed by a major Ashes match.
I am aware that I am 38 years old. People are going to be searching for an excuse: Usman Khawaja
Usman Khawaja performance against South Africa in the World Test Championship (WTC) final was poor. On both instances, Kagiso Rabada dismissed him after he recorded scores of 0 and 6. Some members of the cricket community have started to voice their scepticism about Khawaja’s seam bowling skills. Nonetheless, the southpaw recalled that he finished as Australia’s top run scorer in the 2023–2025 WTC cycle and has scored regularly in Shield Cricket.
“I don’t understand how I can (have an issue with seam bowling) be the highest run-scorer for Australia in the WTC cycle or score so many runs in shield cricket,” Usman Khawaja remarked.
The Islamabad native claimed that because he is an opening batsman, he is out to seamers more frequently. He claimed that because of his advanced age, people try to exploit him as a scapegoat.
“I bat first for Australia.” Thus, I spend more time with seam than with everyone else. I am aware that I am 38 years old. People are going to be searching for an excuse.
