Women’s T20 World Cup squad for South Africa is announced; Laura Wolvaardt will captain the team

Laura Wolvaardt, an accomplished campaigner, will serve as the team’s leader in the major competition. With the exception of a few key players, the nucleus of the squad is the same as it was when it advanced to the 2023 T20 World Cup final. In addition to Shabnim Ismail, who has retired from international cricket, Lara Goodall, Masabata Klaas, and Delmi Tucker have not been included.

Seshnie Naidu, an 18-year-old legspinner, is one of 15 players selected by South Africa for the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. Twenty-year-old seamer Ayanda Hlubi, who debuted internationally last year, joins Naidu, who has not yet made her debut at the international level.

Both players were on the team that participated in the first-ever Under-19 Women’s World Cup, which took place in South Africa the previous year. Hlubi offers raw pace and has previously earned the senior cap in domestic cricket. Naidu, on the other hand, is regarded as one of the nation’s finest prospects and is known for her crisp leg breaks.

The team still boasts a tonne of experience, and veterans like Marizanne Kapp, Tazmin Brits, and Ayabonga Khaka should be key contributors despite these changes. All-around player Nadine de Klerk has been selected for the team, but her condition will be closely watched before the competition as she heals from an Achilles injury.

Additionally, the squad will gain from having versatile players like Suné Luus and Chloé Tryon on the club, who have been playing consistentlyy.
