The team is hoping to recover from a dismal WBBL 10 campaign, and Laura Wolvaardt comeback will be a huge help. The Strikers, who were aiming for an unprecedented hat-trick of championships, only won three of their ten games and ended up in seventh place. Despite the team’s general problems, Wolvaardt managed to score 193 runs at a 24.12 average.
The Adelaide Strikers, a women’s Big Bash League team, have announced that South African captain Laura Wolvaardt has agreed to a two-year contract extension. The 26-year-old will stay with the Strikers till the conclusion of WBBL 12 after being selected as the team’s pre-draft overseas signing.
Laura Wolvaardt joined the Adelaide-based team five seasons ago and has since played in 71 games, scoring 1,726 runs with a strike rate of 110.92 and an average of 27.83. More significantly, she contributed to the Strikers’ consecutive championship runs in WBBL 08 and WBBL 09.
“I’ve made so many amazing memories here, notably our back-to-back title victories, and the club has become a second home to me. Even if last season didn’t go as planned, I’m really looking forward to the future and am committed to helping the Strikers and our incredible supporters achieve even greater success. Wolvaardt stated, “I am eager to return to Adelaide with the team,” according to ESPNcricinfo.
Laura Wolvaardt is an essential member of the Strikers family and a top-tier player: Luke Williams
Now that Laura Wolvaardt is back, the Strikers will try to assemble a potent team around her. With local players like Katie Mack, Bridget Patterson, and Jemma Barsby now without contracts, the team still has a number of list positions available. The club will need to use their second pick in the June 19 foreign draft to assemble their WBBL 11 team. Luke Williams, head coach of the Strikers, spoke candidly about Wolvaardt’s signing.
“We are thrilled to have Laura sign on for two more years since she is a world-class player and an essential member of the Strikers family. Her leadership and expertise, along with her batsmanship, are crucial. She has always done well under duress and was a major contributor to our past championship victories. As we prepare for a successful WBBL|11 season and beyond, we are confident she will be a crucial pillar for us,” he stated.
