Following Friday night’s exciting victory over the Mumbai Indians (MI), which was predicated on the team’s exhausted bowling attack, head coach Justin Langer declared that Mayank Yadav, the express bowler for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), is “up and running” and bowling at “90 to 95%” at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (formerly the NCA) in Bengaluru.
Although Langer expressed hope that the fast will soon be included in the group, he did not provide a date. Langer claimed to have viewed a video of Mayank bowling in Bengaluru while recuperating from back and toe problems.
“What I do know is he’s working very hard at the NCA, and I saw some video of him bowling yesterday [Thursday] and he was bowling at about 90 to 95%,” Langer stated during the news conference. Last year, we witnessed his influence. No Indian bowler, in my opinion, has ever bowled as quickly as Mayank Yadav. That explains why he is the subject of so much discussion.
“Mayank is now active, which is fantastic for Indian cricket and the IPL.
“He’s awake and eager to start. Yesterday at the NCA in Bangalore, he bowled quite well. I believe you have a few more bowls left, and hopefully… To their credit, NCA has undeniably performed admirably because they have defended our Akash Deep and Avesh Khan. We therefore greatly value the efforts they are making to get the boys back on the pitch, and perhaps Mayank as well.”
Langer had previously stated that he hoped Mayank would be available for the “back-end” of the competition when he provided an update on the bowler. His recuperation from a back injury had been delayed by “a week or two” when Mayank stubbed his toe on his bed and subsequently contracted an infection in the toe.
With Mohsin Khan, Mayank, Avesh, and Akash Deep all recuperating from injuries, LSG’s bowling attack was drastically diminished at the beginning of the 2025 Indian Premier League. When Mohsin was ruled out prior to their tournament opener, they brought in Shardul Thakur. Since then, Avesh and Akash Deep have gradually joined the team.
Thakur has already contributed significantly to each of their victories. With Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma batting, he bowled a game-changing 19th over against MI, giving up just seven runs when 29 were needed from 12 balls. He has taken seven wickets in four games.
In his first game back from his back ailment, Akash Deep finished with a score of 4-0-46-1 on Friday. Avesh has played three games but has only taken two wickets and has been costly.
