Former Sri Lankan ODI captain Lahiru Thirimanne announces his retirement from international cricket.

Former Sri Lankan ODI captain Lahiru Thirimanne announces his retirement from international cricket.

Lahiru Thirimanne, a cricketer for Sri Lanka, officially announced the end of his successful international career on Saturday, July 22, leaving behind a legacy that brought him much acclaim over the previous 12 years.

Cricket fans around the world were moved by the left-handed batter’s retirement announcement since they had long appreciated his prowess and commitment to Sri Lanka. Thirimanne has had a great career in international cricket and has made a significant impact on the Sri Lankan team.

Thirimanne posted a sincere letter on Facebook in which he expressed gratitude for the chance to represent his dearly loved country throughout the years. The former left-handed batsman thanked everyone who had a significant influence on his cricket career in his retirement statement. The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) squad members, coaching staff, teammates, physiotherapists, trainers, commentators, and most importantly the devoted fans who supported him throughout his career despite all the ups and downs received this genuine appreciation.

“As a player, I’ve done my best, tried my best, respected the game, and served my homeland with honesty and integrity. It was a hard choice to make, but I won’t go into detail about the numerous unanticipated factors that led me to make this choice, voluntarily or not, in his moving Facebook post.

Lahiru Thirimanne, a former Sri Lankan ODI captain, played for 12 years in the international circuit.

Lahiru Thirimanne played in 44 Test matches throughout his career, scoring 2088 runs at an average of 26.4 and appearing in each one. Three centuries and ten half-centuries were part of his performance, which demonstrated his capacity to settle the innings and develop vital partnerships.

Lahiru Thirimanne represented Sri Lanka in 127 ODI games, scoring 3194 runs at an average of 34.7, and wearing the Sri Lankan jersey. With four centuries and 21 fifties to his credit, he established himself as a dependable run-scorer for his team in a variety of testing situations.

Thirimanne’s flexibility and skill set also applied to the game’s shortest format. In 26 T20 Internationals, he scored 291 runs, showcasing his versatility as a player who can succeed in all forms.
