Anil Kumble urges India to support Nitish Reddy, avoid constant changes

Anil Kumble was thrilled by Nitish Reddy’s performance on the opening day of the third Test between England and India and advised the Indian team management to trust him.

Kumble praised Nitish Reddy 14-over on the first day of the contest. He admired Reddy’s firm ball control.

I think he did well in Australia—got a hundred and bowled well despite taking few wickets. Someone like him must break partnerships and rest quick bowlers while retaining control. Bowling nearly 14 overs in a spell demonstrates fitness and control. He’s youthful, a century-scoring batter, and a good fielder. Kumble said on JioHotstar that India should stick with him and not chop and change.

He consistently hit targets: Kumble on Nitish Reddy

After applauding Reddy’s bowling, the former Indian head coach lauded Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah for keeping Shubman Gill’s team in the game.

Nitish Reddy bowled superbly, surprising me. He consistently hit targets. A gift, that short ball down leg side, but otherwise disciplined. He spoke beautifully to Zak Crawley. When out of form, Crawley learnt, things don’t go well. Excellent catch by Dhruv Jurel. Before Tea, Jadeja probed that line, and he struck first ball after Tea. Naturally, Jasprit Bumrah must play. He bowled well and took an important wicket. It’s impossible to envision Bumrah not speaking in an innings, said Kumble.

After batting first, the hosts scored 251/4. Nitish Reddy took two of India’s four wickets in his first over, dismissing Ben Duckett (23 off 40) and Zak Crawley (18 off 43).
