Kumar Sangakkara applauded India’s new Test captain Shubman Gill’s decisions on Day 1 of the Lord’s Test against England on Thursday, July 10.
The former Sri Lankan captain claimed Shubman’s 14th-over decision to put Nitish Kumar Reddy into the bowling attack instead of his frontline seamers was brave. This paid off immediately as Reddy dismissed the England openers in his first over.
“Gill captained well, especially with Reddy in early. Young captains are tempted to stick with their key bowlers. He made a brave choice. He took a chance and got two wickets. I admire a young captain’s risk-taking, and Shubman Gill is learning quickly “Sky Sports.
In the closing session of Day 1 at the Home of Cricket, Jasprit Bumrah set up the in-form Harry Brook and dismissed him for 11 runs. Kumar Sangakkara was impressed.
The Brook by Bumrah arrangement was my favourite part of the day. That was great bowling. Excellent line and length control. Bumrah controlled line and length well those two overs. First full, then little shorter, a bouncer, then seam control. He explained the cross seam before Brook and the precise seam angling in behind to castle him.
Kumar Sangakkara praises Dhruv Jurel’s wicketkeeping.
Rishabh Pant injured his hand trying to collect a leg-side delivery, thus Dhruv Jurel took over wicketkeeping. The kid eliminated Ollie Pope in the third session with a great catch. Kumar Sangakkara praised Jurel’s stumpwork, pointing out his technique.
“Great capture. Jurel was well-positioned. Great hip opening. It bounced, his hands were good, and his head was close to the gloves, proving his keeper skills. He excelled in his debut Indian series. New rules let you benefit, which was good for Pant and India. I think Jurel’s preparation, dedication, and entry were difficult in England. It will boost his confidence “said.
