Kristen Beams has been named the Mumbai Indians’ spin-bowling coach ahead of the forthcoming season. On January 9, Beams, a former Australian cricket player, will begin her first coaching position as the team prepares to defend its championship in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026.
Kristen Beams said she was thrilled to be joining the Mumbai Indians camp as she began her career as a coach.
According to her, the two-time champs have a close-knit group bond and are like a family. “It’s exactly the kind of setup that a coach would want to join,” Kristen Beams continued, adding that she also gets to spend time with MI’s bowling coach and mentor, Jhulan Goswami.
“It’s an amazing opportunity to work with someone like Jhulan Goswami, one of the greats of the game, someone I played cricket against, and it’s my first time back as a coach.” They have an amazing culture that has been successful for a very long time, but they are also a family, and everyone talks about how close-knit this group is.
In a video shared by the Mumbai Indians’ official social media account, Kristen Beams explained, “It’s like a family, and it’s what you want to be a part of, and I think as a coach coming in that’s exactly what you want to be able to do is to walk into an environment that feels really tight-knit and a team that knows how to win.”
Speaking of MI, on January 9 at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team will begin their championship defence against Smriti Mandhana’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the tournament opener. On January 30, they will meet the Gujarat Giants at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara to conclude their round-robin competition.
