During India’s training session on Friday, January 9, in Vadodara, former captain Virat Kohli was in a good mood and was observed amusingly imitating the running style of left-arm bowler Arshdeep Singh. Before India’s three-match ODI series against New Zealand, which starts on January 11, the humorous moment took place.
Kohli seemed at ease and happy throughout the drill, laughing with colleagues while jokingly mimicking Arshdeep’s run-up. The upbeat spirit in the Indian camp was reflected in the moment’s rapid attention. After putting on strong performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025–2026, both Kohli and Arshdeep enter the series in strong condition.

During the competition, Kohli participated in two games and amassed 208 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 128.39 and an average of 104. He scored a spectacular century and a fifty, but his most notable innings was a spectacular 131 off 101 balls against Andhra Pradesh.
Arshdeep played two games for Punjab during his successful VHT campaign. The left-arm bowler kept his economy rate below four while taking seven wickets at a superb average of 8.57. He produced outstanding numbers of 5/34 against Sikkim, which was his finest performance to date.
Kohli has already made a name for himself as one of the best batters of all time in One-Day Internationals.
At a remarkable average of 58.46, he has amassed 14,557 runs in 308 games, which is the second-highest total in the format. This total includes 53 hundreds and 76 fifties. With 1,657 runs in 33 ODIs against New Zealand, Kohli is poised to overtake the Black Caps as India’s top run scorer.
In addition, he has scored six hundreds against them, and he will soon reach 100 more to become the batter with the most ODI hundreds against New Zealand. At the IS Bindra Stadium in 2016, he put on his best show against the Kiwis, scoring an undefeated 154.
In contrast, Arshdeep is still relatively new to the 50-over format. He has taken 22 wickets in 13 innings at an average of 24.90, a strike rate of 28.2, and an economy of 5.29 in his 14 ODI appearances to far. His highest ODI stats are 5/37. Despite this, he has played three ODIs against New Zealand and has not taken a wicket.
