‘Kohli won’t reverse decisions’ — Ex-batter on retirement rumours

"There are many players who have reversed their retirements. But Kohli is not among them," Mohammad Kaif opined.

Kohli Return at Chinnaswamy Without Spectators

According to former cricket player Mohammad Kaif, Virat Kohli is unlikely to reverse his decision to retire from Test cricket amid rumours that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wants to reinstate the experienced batsman in the red-ball setup.

Prior to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy earlier this year, Kohli said goodbye to his preferred format. At a time when Indian supporters are worried about their team’s performance in the longest format, particularly following the 0-2 whitewash at home against South Africa, he has made outstanding returns in ODI cricket. According to certain sources, the BCCI wants to convince the former captain of India to change his mind about retiring from Test matches.

When the Royal Challengers Bengaluru released Faf du Plessis in 2024, Kaif recalled that Kohli did not return as captain for the second time. The former cricket player who is now an analyst described Kohli as a man of his word who follows through on his choices.

Kaif emphasised how, despite missing more than a month of activity, Kohli looked fantastic.

“Kohli tends to follow through on his decisions. Numerous athletes have changed their minds about retiring. However, Kohli is not one of them. The last time he was captain of the IPL, people advised him to take the helm again, but he chose not to. “He decided to support a junior, and Patidar was the captain,” Kaif stated on his YouTube page.

“He has the courage to say that he will not return at this time after answering the phone, regardless of the reason. People do want him, but he is a man of his word and won’t return once these calls are answered,” he continued.

At this point, they will even pass harsh judgement on him and wait for him to leave: Kaif

The native of Allahabad commended Kohli for his outstanding century in Sunday, November 30,’s first ODI against South Africa in Ranchi. The former said that when players get to the point in their careers where Kohli is, they frequently try to compete for their spot in the team. But the 37-year-old is unique because he played for the team, according to Kaif.

“After a month, he performed. He didn’t play anywhere or stay in contact. However, he was batting in accordance with his will in Ranchi. He had to alter his pace once wickets dropped in between, but he may have even reached a double hundred. The mood he was in while batting is barely visible. At this point, others will even pass harsh judgement on him and wait for him to leave. For a cricket player, this level is quite challenging. Under this strain, he is unable to play such an innings. They will try to play it cautiously and defend their position. He didn’t bat that way, though. This is why he is fantastic,” Kaif remarked.
