Kohli Confirmed for Vijay Hazare

The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has announced that Virat Kohli would be eligible for selection, despite speculations on Tuesday, December 2, that he might not play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

For the first time since 2010, the former captain of India will participate in the 50-over competition. Ashok Sharma, the secretary of the DDCA, verified the situation on Tuesday.

After weeks of conjecture on Kohli’s involvement, DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma told India Today, “Virat Kohli informed DDCA president Rohan Jaitley that he will play VHT.”

On December 24, Delhi will play Andhra Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, a match that is now anticipated to draw a larger crowd than typical for a domestic 50-over encounter. Since the 2013 NKP Salve Challenger Trophy, Kohli, who last participated in the competition against Services in February 2010, has not represented Delhi in a List A match. His comeback coincides with the BCCI requiring centrally contracted players who are not injured or on national service to make domestic appearances.

By the way, Delhi’s group-stage games are set to take place in Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium and Alur. After making major contributions to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) throughout the years, Kohli has become one of Bengaluru’s favourite adopted sons. Kohli led RCB in scoring throughout the 2025 Indian Premier tournament, which helped the team win its first championship in the lucrative tournament.

In the present Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Delhi, captained by Nitish Rana, has won two of their first four games. As they aim to go the distance, the side gains star power and experience with Kohli’s inclusion for the one-day event.

At the moment, Kohli is participating in the three-match ODI series between South Africa and India.

The right-handed batsman hit his 52nd ODI century in the opening ODI on Sunday, November 30, giving the Men in Blue a 1-0 series lead. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is anticipated to play for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy after he too produced a crucial half-century against the Proteas.
