Kohli advised to rethink Test retirement

Discussions on Virat Kohli’s Test retirement have been rekindled by former India batsman Robin Uthappa, who has urged the most successful Indian red-ball captain to change his mind after witnessing his focus and intensity during recent training sessions.

Uthappa posted a picture of Virat working in the nets during India’s practice session on social media, writing that it’s still evident how hungry he is. Additionally, he hinted that Virat Kohli might be ready to return from test retirement at this moment.

“The eyes reveal a narrative to you.It must be time to revoke his test retirement. I hope he returns to Test cricket,” Uthappa wrote.

Them eyes tell u a story…Surely it’s time to rescind his test retirement. Would love to see him back in Test cricket. pic.twitter.com/fxWcI8tF1X

Uthappa had previously stated that it was not natural for either Virat or Rohit Sharma to leave test cricket. His YouTube account was where he was speaking.

It didn’t seem like a natural departure, but I’m not sure if it was a forced surrender. They will have to reveal the truth on their own schedule. In a video posted to his YouTube account, he stated, “But I don’t think it was natural.”

Just before the 2025 England series, Kohli, who is considered to be among the best red-ball players of the contemporary age, shocked everyone by abruptly retiring from his favourite game. The former captain of India concluded his remarkable career with 30 centuries and 9230 runs at an average of 46.85. Since then, the Delhi native has excelled in ODIs and hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down.

Virat Kohli’s 2025 was fantastic.

Virat dominated the 50-over format in 2025 despite quitting both tests and Twenty20 Internationals. With 651 runs at an average of 65.10 in 13 games, Virat Kohli was India’s top ODI run scorer in 2025 and one of the season’s most reliable batsmen. Just behind Rohit Sharma, he is now ranked second in the ODI batting rankings. He was in excellent form even during the Vijay Hazare Trophy, striking two fifties for Delhi in consecutive games before joining Team India for a three-match series against the BlackCaps.
