India’s comeback on Day 5 was made possible by his record-breaking 188-run partnership with seasoned opener KL Rahul for the third wicket. Shubman Gill thinks that this combination was the first to allow the Indian team go neck-to-neck against a formidable English attack on a challenging batting surface. Rahul left for 90, just missing his third three-figure record of the series.
Three centurions, including Indian captain Shubman Gill, illuminated the fifth day of the Manchester Test match against England. Despite being in difficulty early on, India managed to draw the match on the dramatic final day at Old Trafford. Gill took the squad out of trouble against the Ben Stokes-led team by leading from the front and playing a captain’s knock while batting at number four.
We can accomplish this job, I believe, because of the partnership KL Rahul bhai and I had after we went 0 for 2. incredibly joyful.
It’s really pleasing to be able to draw from the position we were in yesterday. I thought this was my most satisfying innings,” Gill told BCCI following the match.
Following Gill and Rahul’s departures, the situation appeared precarious once more because India had not yet overcome the deficit that England had imposed on them. Nonetheless, Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja displayed steely nerves and approached every challenge with laser-like focus. Gill claims that although the ball had begun to behave badly, the two left-handed batters’ performances were excellent.
It wasn’t easy while Washy and Jaddu bhai were batting. “The way they calmly batted and got Test centuries from there tells you how big of an achievement it is,” the Fazilka-born player continued, adding that the ball was doing something.
We make a fantastic team: Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill also acknowledged that it was challenging to maintain stability when batting for extended periods of time, both mentally and physically. The child thinks that the Indian team’s distinction from England in terms of mentality is what made them stand out and ultimately contributed to their triumph.
It’s really challenging to maintain the same attitude throughout 140 or more overs. That is the distinction between a decent and a great team. We demonstrated today why we make a fantastic team,” he said.
The series is presently tied 1-2 in England’s favour, and the fifth and final Test will begin on July 31 at London’s Kennington Oval.
