KL Rahul should carry on opening, Rohit can bat at five or six: Ravi Shastri

In the second Test match against Australia in Adelaide, former India head coach Ravi Shastri suggested that the Indian team’s management stick with the opening pairing of KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Rahul started and stitched a crucial 201-run partnership with Jaiswal in the second innings while captain Rohit Sharma was away for the first game of the five-match series because his son was born. The visitors set a lofty goal thanks to their start, and they won by 295 runs.

The returning Rohit should be placed in the middle order, according to Shastri, who also wants the team management to stick to the same formula. He emphasised that he wants the cricket player to bat in at number five or six because the 37-year-old didn’t have the time to adjust.

Since Rohit hasn’t had much time since arriving in Australia, I believe he (KL Rahul) should continue with the opening.

He had to play that Prime Minister’s XI game very quickly. However, I would advise continuing with the same configuration. In the ICC Review, Shastri stated, “He [Rohit] can bat at five or six.”

One of the best batting lineups is this one: Ravi Shastri

On the second test, star batsman Shubman Gill will also be making a comeback to the starting lineup. The young player batted well in the warm-up match against the Prime Minister XI but was sidelined for the Perth Test because of a finger injury. Regarding the same, Shastri went on to say that Gill will give the squad a lot better appearance. He also thinks that this is India’s best batting lineup to visit Australia in the previous ten to fifteen years.

“It is a really good Indian side since Shubman Gill is also fit. Because of the experience, I would say that, out of all the teams that have visited Australia in the past ten to fifteen years, you get the impression that this is one of the best batting lineups. Shubman is healthy and bats at three. When Rohit feels well, he returns to play in place of (Devdutt) Padikkal and (Dhruv) Jurel,” he continued.
