The charge was approved by the official match referee for this game, Richie Richardson, and Indian captain KL Rahul immediately entered a guilty plea. As a result, the fine was approved without a formal hearing.
Every member of Team India who participated in the second One-Day International against South Africa on Wednesday, December 3 at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur was fined ten percent of their individual match fees. The International Cricket Council (ICC) levied the sanction because the hosts were unable to maintain the acceptable over-rate during the game.
The slow-over rate charge was imposed on the Indians when they failed to bowl out by a few overs from the allotted time in the second game of the series, which they lost.
There was no need for a formal hearing because Rahul entered a guilty plea to the crime and agreed to the suggested punishment. The accusation was brought by on-field umpires Rod Tucker and Rohan Pandit, third umpire Sam Nogajski, and fourth umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal, according to an ICC press statement on Monday.
Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for players and players’ support staff is specifically related to maintaining a slow over-rate throughout any international match. Five percent of each player’s match fee is deducted for any over that falls short of the goal.
Following the punishment, KL Rahul & Co. were required to pay 10% of their match fees each because they were two overs short.
Speaking of the game, the Proteas broke through the enormous 359-run goal in the 50th over of the run chase, meaning that the Raipur contest went right down to the final over. Aiden Markram, who appeared to be clueless on Wednesday due to his scorching century in the second innings, was the anchor of the pursuit.
“Considering the amount of dew and the difficulty of bowling in the second innings, it’s not really a [hard one to swallow].” I felt we performed admirably in the previous game. The umpires were kind enough to switch the ball today. I’m punishing myself because toss is so important (laughs). We could always have done things more effectively. KL Rahul stated during the post-match presentation, “I know that 350 looks good with the bat, but even after the last game, there has been talk in the dressing room about how we can get the extra 20–25 runs to give bowlers a cushion with the wet ball.”
