Reports: KL Rahul opts out of England series and is available for Champions Trophy 2025 choices

In KL Rahul In the just finished Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25, Rahul batted with determination. While other batsmen struggled against Australia, he was one of the few Indian batters who the former cricket players deemed technically competent. Rahul later chose not to participate in the present Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024–25, where his home team, Karnataka, advanced to the knockout stages following a taxing five-match Test series.

The wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul scored 276 runs at an average of 30.67 in 10 innings,

demonstrating his outstanding batting performance against Australia. He was anticipated to play for India in the forthcoming white-ball series against England. The batsman has asked for a break and will not be playing in the series, according to NDTV Sports. Nonetheless, the right-handed hitter will be available for Champions Trophy 2025 selections, according to a BCCI source.

“He will be eligible for selection for the Champions Trophy, but he has requested a break for the England series,” the source stated.

Mohammed Shami will return soon.

Speaking about the series against England, it will begin with a five-match Twenty20 International series, with the opening encounter set to start on January 22 at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. Following the completion of the five Twenty20 Internationals, the first ODI of the three-match ODI leg will take place at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on February 6.

However, there are rumours that Mohammed Shami may make a return with the England series. The great pacer last represented India against Australia in the 2023 World Cup final. He hasn’t worn the India shirt since due to an ankle ailment. The bowler recently participated in some domestic matches for Bengal, but his eagerly anticipated return has been delayed due to ankle swelling.
