KL Rahul, the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), suffered an injury during the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday, May 1. He will likely miss the remainder of the IPL 2023 season. During the second over of the first inning against RCB, the captain was chasing a ball in the outfield when he hurt his right leg.
Following the game on May 3 against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), KL Rahul will fly to Mumbai for scans at a designated BCCI medical facility.
No scans have been performed yet, according to a top BCCI source, who also said that the BCCI will handle the situation.
“KL Rahul is now in Lucknow with the squad, but he will depart the training facility on Thursday after seeing the game against CSK on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. According to a top BCCI source who spoke to The Times of India under the condition of anonymity and who was aware of the development, his scans will be performed in Mumbai at the BCCI-designated medical facility.
Regardless of the severity of the injury, the top cricket body may decide to keep Rahul out of action so that he may heal in time for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final. The batter is a member of the red-ball team that will compete at the Oval in London beginning on June 7 against arch-rivals Australia.
Krunal Pandya will be the LSG’s leader.
On that basis, Krunal Pandya will probably assume the role of LSG’s skipper for the remaining part of the season. Sadly, the information was released on the same day that pacer Jaydev Unadkat was hurt. Notably, during one of the net sessions, while clutching his left shoulder, the pacer suffered a blow to his left shoulder when his left foot became tangled in the rope.
Rahul will start his recuperation after the scans, and Unadkat will head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for rehab. The franchise and management have yet to issue a formal comment.
