Captain KL Rahul suffered an injury during the most recent IPL 2023 game between the Lucknow Super Giants and the Rajasthan Royals after taking contact with a pitch from the opposing team’s fielder. Wednesday, April 19, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, the incident occurred during the second innings, when LSG was attempting to defend the 155-run target they had set for the opposition.
Lucknow successfully defended its total and defeated Rajasthan by 10 runs. KL Rahul scored 39 runs off 32 balls while opening the batting with Kyle Mayers before he was dismissed in the eleventh over. Upon being questioned about his injury during the post-match presentation, Rahul responded humorously that he had been doing something incorrectly.
“One of my own teammates threw something at me. Rahul responded sarcastically to Sanjay Manjikar’s inquiry about his injury, stating, “I am obviously doing something wrong as captain.”

Later, he commented on his team’s performance in the game, saying that the batters did a fine job by setting a 155-run target on an unsuitable batting surface. Rahul and Mayers got the game off to a reasonable start by putting on an opening stand of 82 runs, but LSG suffered a mini-collapse as they lost four batters in four overs.
“At the 10-over mark, Kyle Mayers and I communicated that 160 would be a respectable total on this pitch, as their bowlers took advantage of the conditions. We fell shy by 10 but made up for it with the ball. And because there was no dew, the game was equitable for both teams,” said Rahul.
Before Rahul and Mayers confronted Trent Boult in the first over of the game, the batsmen believed that a score of approximately 180 could be a winning total on the Jaipur surface. He disclosed that the two discussed the wicket’s behavior in the middle and devised strategies accordingly for the remainder of the game.
“We thought 180 would be a par score when we arrived here on Tuesday, but after the first over from Trent Boult, Kyle and I had a conversation and realized this is not a 180 wicket. The ball was staying somewhat low, so we extended the powerplay. “Perhaps if we had played slightly better, we could have also scored 170,” Rahul said.
