Following KL Rahul stunning century against Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023, former India skipper Anil Kumble claimed that KL Rahul had profited from the downtime. India won the match by six wickets to get their competition off to a great start.

At No. 4, KL Rahul entered the batting order with Virat Kohli (85), who was struggling for India at 2/3. With a 167-run partnership, the pair stabilized the run chase, setting a record for the longest fourth-wicket stand in ODI cricket. With eight boundaries and two maximums, the wicketkeeper-batter scored an undefeated 97 off 115 deliveries.

“Yes, I believe you are aware. The time off has undoubtedly been beneficial to him. His awareness of the game and his resilience in sort of going through those periods and being consistent have both been outstanding. We all knew he was talented and skilled against pace and spin, but controlling all of it to make sure he delivered what the team needed from him was exceptional, according to Kumble, who spoke to ESPNcricinfo.

The 52-year-old continued by saying that the innings in Chennai was the greatest he had seen in the past few months from the wicketkeeper-batter.

“Yes. recently, like a few months ago? Yes, KL Rahul played fantastic batting.

In May 2023, during a match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rahul suffered a major hamstring injury. As a result, he required surgery on his right thigh, which caused him to miss some time playing afterward.

In spite of this setback, he made an impressive comeback to the game in the Asia Cup 2023, inspiring India to a massive total of 356 runs with a magnificent 111* against Pakistan in the Super Four stage. In three ODI matches against Australia before the World Cup, he scored 136 runs, extending his comeback past the continental championship.
