KL Rahul: Gaikwad’s Stop-Start Career Is Unfortunate

Ahead of the forthcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa, standby captain KL Rahul discussed Ruturaj Gaikwad and his talent. Gaikwad has only played six games for India since making his ODI debut in 2022, compared to 23 T20Is thus far.

KL Rahul noted that Gaikwad possesses a great deal of technical skill. He also clarified why, despite having the talent, players like Gaikwad are not given opportunities at the international level.

“Rutu is undoubtedly a very good player. We have all seen that he has made good use of the little opportunities he has had and demonstrated his abilities. You feel sorry for players who don’t get enough opportunities because, regrettably, the top five or six in ODIs are fairly stable and doing well. According to India Today, KL Rahul said, “But at the same time, you’re happy that the playing group is doing well.”

Gaikwad, the reinforced wicketkeeper-batter, will be given chances to demonstrate his abilities.

KL Rahul, who views Gaikwad as a top-order batsman, reaffirmed that skill has never been a problem.

“It’s sad for those who were unable to attend, but he now has a chance due to a few injuries. At some point, he will have his opportunity. We are eager to provide him with that chance and allow him to demonstrate his abilities. His talent has always been undeniable; it just takes the correct moment and opportunity. “I hope this series gives him that opportunity,” KL Rahul continued.

With 210 runs in three games, Gaikwad led India A in scoring during their three-match 50-over series against South Africa. He was selected for the ODI team for the series against the Proteas because he appeared to be in excellent form.

It’s unclear if Gaikwad would have an opportunity to begin the batting because Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal are also in the squad.
