KL Rahul of the Delhi Capitals became the fastest player in the Indian Premier League to reach 5000 runs during Tuesday’s match against the Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow. Rahul reached the milestone in his 130th innings, breaking David Warner’s previous record of 5000 runs in 135 innings.
He is now the seventh batter to achieve the 5000-run mark in the IPL, joining the elite group led by Virat Kohli, who has amassed 8326 runs.
The wicketkeeper-batter had to reach the milestone with 51 runs prior to today. He surpassed Chris Gayle (4965) as the IPL’s all-time leading scorer during his innings.

Rahul also became the seventh batsman in IPL history to surpass 5000 runs. The others are Warner, Dhawan, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, de Villiers, Rohit Sharma, and Kohli.
Rahul has been in excellent form in the 2017 IPL, amassing 323 runs from seven games at an average of 64.60 and a strike-rate of 153.80, including three fifties. Rahul’s fifty off 40 balls helped the Capitals upset the Super Giants by eight wickets after they had chased down a target of 160 with 13 deliveries left.
Prior to the match against LSG, Rahul had previously amassed fifty runs against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings. Rahul will want to keep the momentum going when DC plays RCB on April 27 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
