Someone stepping up KL Rahul’s absence doesn’t mean his place was in danger: Parthiv Patel

Someone stepping up KL Rahul's absence doesn't mean his place was in danger: Parthiv Patel

KL Rahul Following his amazing half-century against Bangladesh on Day 4 of the second Test at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium, Rahul received high accolades from Parthiv Patel. After hitting seven fours and two sixes in an explosive 68 off only 43 balls, the Karnataka batsman helped India declare at 285/9 in just 34.4 overs, securing a 52-run lead on September 30.

Rahul’s status in the Indian playing XI was in doubt following Sarfaraz Khan’s incredible debut series against England earlier this year, which was necessitated by an injury. The Indian team management did, however, support the 32-year-old, who played the first Test in Chennai and scored 16 and went undefeated at 22. But in the second Test, he turned up the heat and completely outplayed the Bangladeshi bowlers.

Parthiv stated that even if others performed well when Rahul was not playing, he was always certain that Rahul would be selected for the starting eleven. Prior to suffering an injury, Rahul showed promise in matches against England and South Africa, according to the former India batsman and wicketkeeper.

“I don’t believe there is any reason to doubt KL Rahul’s competence. It doesn’t mean Rahul’s position was in jeopardy if someone else filled in and performed admirably. His place on the squad was always clear to me. In an interview with Jio Cinema, Parthiv stated, “I think when you said KL Rahul was under pressure, I sometimes wonder why, because he had a very good series in South Africa and he batted well against England before he got injured.”

KL Rahul can make the following kinds of shots when he plays with a free mentality: Parthiv Patel

According to Patel, on a sluggish pitch with erratic bounce, some of the shots Rahul hit during his spectacular knock were difficult to execute. The former cricket player who is now a commentator praised the Mangaluru native’s ability to rotate strikes throughout the innings.

“But he demonstrated his abilities as a player once more today. Playing these strokes is not easy, particularly when the surface lacks bounce or pace. Although there was a lot of erratic bounce that we witnessed, we are aware of the kind of shots KL Rahul can make when he plays with a free mentality. He demonstrated that skill today, and we saw a lot of strike rotation as well,” he continued.
