On Monday, August 5, at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, Kieron Pollard struck two sixes during the Southern Brave vs. Welsh Fire game in The Hundred 2024. The famous Kumar Sangakkara was almost taken out in the commentary box by one of those hits.
The Southern Braves were ahead 103/3 when Kieron Pollard entered the bat at position No. 5.
The former West Indies captain scored two maximums and quickly amassed 17 off 12 balls. Sangakkara and colleague commentator Robert Croft had a near escape as the first of the two massive hits slammed into the commentary box at the fine-leg boundary. On the 84th ball of the game, the 37-year-old pulled a short delivery from Haris Rauf in the direction of fine-leg.
Sangakkara and Croft both had to duck and cover their faces to prevent a calamity when the ball struck the commentary box. Especially frightened, Croft bemoaned to his teammates that no one had alerted him to the approaching ball.

Speaking about the game, the Braves chose to bat first and scored 139/5 in their 100 balls. With seven fours and three sixes in just fifty balls, captain James Vince led from the front with an undefeated 73. Rauf concluded with stats of 2/22 off 20 balls, making him the standout bowler for the Welsh.
Welsh could not muster any kind of momentum in their innings as they dropped wickets at regular intervals in reply. In the end, David Willey top scored with a 14-ball 21 as Tom Abell and company crashed for 97. Chris Jordan took two wickets, while Danny Briggs took three, but Tymal Mills shone out with a four-for.

With this victory, Southern Brave climbed to the top of the standings. So far, they’ve won four of their five games. With two victories and three losses from their last five games, Welsh are now struggling at number six.
