Khurram Shahzad is not at risk of injury and is scheduled to play in the Test series against England

Amid the outcry from supporters following Pakistan’s humiliation in the Test series against Bangladesh, there comes positive news in the form of Khurram Shahzad‘s fitness. In the first innings of the second Test, the bowler gave Bangladesh a reasonable chance by taking four wickets in their disastrous 26 for 6. However, he was unable to duplicate that effort in the second innings, taking just one wicket and maybe being injured in the process.

After the game, the bowler was sent for scans and spent most of the last day on the field. According to sources, the scan revealed that the right-arm pacemaker was functioning normally, and the physicians have advised a brief period of rest to ensure there is no risk of a catastrophic damage. This suggests that the 24-year-old would be available for the upcoming Test series against England, who are currently on tour.

Due to his fitness, Khurram Shahzad has only participated in three red-ball matches for Pakistan and has been unfortunate.

In December 2023, he made his Perth debut against Australia. However, the child sustained a stress fracture to one of his ribs. His immediate tasks after recovering were the two Tests in the Bangladesh series.

Shahzad has shown remarkable performance while playing little. He has taken 14 wickets at an average of 24.85 and a strike rate of 40.7 in three Test matches. As England embarks on a three-Test tour of Pakistan, starting on October 7 at Multan Stadium, he will be hoping for a speedy recovery.

In addition, the series serves as a yardstick for the Pakistani team’s harsh criticism over poor leadership and behaviour in the locker room and board. It is noteworthy that since 2021, the team has not prevailed in a home series. It does not appear good for them where they stand in the World Test Championship.
