According to former Australian batsman David Warner, Usman Khawaja will push Travis Head down the order and reclaim the top spot in the third Test of the current Ashes series. Due to back spasms he suffered during the series opener in Perth, Khawaja was unable to play in the second Test.
Warner, who has played with both Khawaja and Head, believed that the tourists would be concerned about Head batting lower in the order given his past.
“I believe Trav (Travis Head) falls and Uzzy (Usman Khawaja) returns and slides to the top. According to Khawaja, who was cited by ICC, “Travis Head moving back down the order is probably a worse result for England.”
Warner emphasised Head’s capacity to adjust to various circumstances and take charge when called upon. But he also mentioned that the 31-year-old prefers to bat lower in the order.
“In the end, Travis raised his hand to bat given the circumstances. He batted like Travis Head when he came out. He continued, “You see a lot of interviews where Trav says that’s Uzzy’s place, and he wouldn’t mind going up the order when the time comes.”
Head has scored eight of his ten Test hundreds when batting in the middle order, and three of those hundreds have occurred at the Adelaide Oval, where the third Test was played on December 17. Head is ranked fifth in Tests with an average of 41.46.
Australia is coming off two straight victories. In the first match, Head opened the batting during the run-chase and scored a quick 123 runs off 83 balls, although Starc was awarded Player of the Match. So far in the series, he has been the most impressive player, taking 18 wickets in four innings at an average of just 14.
