Legendary England captain Kevin Pietersen used an indirect way to vent his frustration with his former teammate Nasser Hussain, after the latter referred to the Jos Buttler-led team’s 2023 ODI World Cup defeat as the “end of an era”.
Following England’s crushing eight-wicket loss to Sri Lanka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Hussain made these remarks. It is important to note that the reigning champions have performed poorly in the 2023 World Cup, winning just one of their first five games and all but guaranteeing their elimination from the tournament.
Kevin Pietersen expressed admiration for England’s white-ball team, saying they have been providing entertainment for a long time.
The 43-year-old claims that people are humiliated if they believe this to be the “end of an era.”
“We have had nothing but delight and excitement for many years from this England white ball squad. There seems to be a lot of negativity and “end of era” content these days. Well, that’s life if it is. Avoid assigning responsibility. If you do, it’s embarrassing for you!” Pietersen contributed to X.

In the meantime, when England played Sri Lanka in their last match, they lost for the fourth time in a row. The loss makes it less likely for the reigning champs to advance to the semifinals. With just one victory against Bangladesh, the Jos Buttler-led team is now ranked ninth out of ten teams in the competition.
Regarding the match against Sri Lanka, England chose to bat first and lost for a dismal 156 runs in 33.2 overs. Ben Stokes led the way with 43 points from 73. Afterwards, Sri Lanka was able to chase down the mark in 26 overs because to half-centuries from Pathum Nissanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama, who remained undefeated.
