Ahead to the second ODI, hosts South Africa were dealt a serious blow when spin all-rounder Keshav Maharaj was injured and forced to miss the remainder of the series against Pakistan. The injury occurred during warm-ups and affected the left arm spin feeling.
Just prior to the toss, Keshav Maharaj was observed hobbling out of the site.
His left adductor was strained, as a result of which he was sent for scans. Notably, the ODI series between South Africa and Pakistan began at Boland Park in Paarl on December 17 after the Rainbow Nation lost to the visitors.
Andile Phehlukwayo was substituted for Keshav Maharaj, who was supposed to participate in the first ODI itself, because of the injury. Bjourn Fortuin, however, will replace him in a like-for-like fashion for the second ODI match rather than the final two.
The bowling department’s lengthy injury list
