In the first match of their Oman trip, Kerala’s senior men’s team defeated the Oman Chairman’s XI by an exciting four wickets. According to a statement from the Kerala Cricket Association, Rohan Kunnummal, Salman Nizar, and Shaun Roger all put on outstanding performances as Kerala chased a massive mark of 327 and won with five balls remaining.
Oman Chairman’s XI, who batted first, amassed a commanding 326 in their 50 overs. With a strong 137-run combination, openers Jatinder Singh and Aamir Kaleem gave the hosts a head start. Aamir put up a strong 73 off 68 balls, then Jatinder produced a dominant knock, reaching 150 off 136 deliveries.
After Aamir was removed, Kerala’s bowlers mounted a formidable recovery despite the early assault.
In order to limit the scoring and stop Oman from reaching an even higher total, MD Nidheesh and Eden Apple Tom spearheaded the comeback, taking four wickets apiece.
Kerala’s reaction started out slowly, with openers Ahmad Imran and Rohan Kunnummal giving them a strong start. With a vital 146-run partnership for the third wicket, Rohan and Salman Nizar steadied the score even though Mohammed Azharuddeen and Ahmad Imran both fell quickly in the same over.
With a calm century of 122 off 109 balls, which included 12 fours and four sixes, Rohan spearheaded the pursuit. Salman Nizar, who scored 87 runs, was an important supporting player. Shaun Roger maintained the momentum after the opener left with a fluid 56 off 48 balls.
Akshay Manohar and Sharafuddeen maintained composure and led Kerala to an unforgettable victory in spite of a couple blunders in the closing minutes. Hussain Ali Shah was the best bowler for the hosts, with four wickets.
On April 23, Kerala will take on their next tour obstacle.
