Kaushal Silva, a former batsman for Sri Lanka, has been named head coach of the Hong Kong men’s cricket team. About a month and a half before the 2025 Asia Cup, the appointment was made.
Kaushal Silva brings with him seven years of extensive experience playing at the highest level, during which he scored three hundreds while representing Sri Lanka in 39 Test matches. Even more remarkable are his First-Class cricket records, where he amassed nearly 14,000 runs, including an incredible 41 hundreds. For their next duties, Cricket Hong Kong was thrilled to bring on a seasoned player.
“Kaushal Silva commitment to fostering and advancing talent aligns with our goals for Hong Kong cricket’s future.
Under his direction, we think we can improve our competitive position and spread awareness of the sport in our community,” board chair Burji Shroff stated.
On the occasion of his appointment, Kaushal Silva stated, “My focus will be on instilling a strong work ethic and a winning mentality among the senior squad and working to identify and nurture fresh talent for continued growth.”
In the multinational tournament, Hong Kong is grouped with Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. The Asian squad will undoubtedly try to upset the teams in their group to advance to the event, where the top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 4s stages, with the former Sri Lanka cricket player leading coaching duties.
