Shuchi Upadhyay, Sree Charani, and Kashvee Gautam are the three players who have earned their first international call-ups.
For the forthcoming Women’s Tri-Nation ODI series between hosts Sri Lanka and South Africa, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the team. The competition, which will start on 27 April at Colombo’s R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, is viewed as a practice run for the domestic ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 later this year.
Star opener Smriti Mandhana will be Harmanpreet Kaur’s deputy as she continues to lead the Indian team. With a number of noteworthy inclusions and exclusions, the selection committee has aimed for a balance between youth and experience.
Each of the three players that made an impression in the just finished Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 has received recognition for their efforts. Charani, who played for the Delhi Capitals, contributed despite having few opportunities, taking four wickets in two games.
For the Gujarat Giants, Kashvee Gautam took 11 wickets at an economy rate of 6.45 and an average of 18.18.
Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh, Yastika Bhatia, Deepti Sharma, and Sneh Rana are other members of the team. Interestingly, Shafali Verma was left off the roster despite having a stellar WPL 2025 season with the Capitals. After a poor performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup, the youthful opener was cut from the team and hasn’t returned to the national team. In the meanwhile, injury setbacks have also contributed to the squad’s formation. Titas Sadhu and Renuka Singh Thakur were not selected since they are still recovering from injuries.
In this tri-nation series, India, who placed second in the ICC Women’s Championship 2022–25, would be hoping to recover.
Each club will compete in four league games during the tournament, with the top two teams moving on to the May 11 final. Every game will be played in Colombo, beginning on April 27 with Women in Blue’s first game against Sri Lanka. After that, on April 29, the team will play South Africa. On May 4, they will play Sri Lanka, and on May 7, they will play South Africa once more.
