‘Karun Nair’s fourth-innings dismissal was Lord’s Test turning point’ – Ajinkya Rahane

'Karun Nair's fourth-innings dismissal was Lord's Test turning point' - Ajinkya Rahane

On Day 4, early in their second innings, India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, with a partnership of 36 runs off 66 balls for the second wicket, KL Rahul and Karun Nair stabilised the ship. But as Nair shouldered arms to a nip-backer, who whacked him on the pads next to the wickets, Brydon Carse broke the stand. The right-handed batter made the smart option to not dispute the decision because he was plumb in front of the stumps, and the umpire lifted his finger without hesitation.

With the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at stake, India fell down 1-2 in the five-match series against England after losing the third Test at the Lord’s Cricket Ground by 22 runs. On the last day of the Test match, the team captained by Shubman Gill was unable to chase down a 193-run mark at the Home of Cricket.

Karun Nair scored 14 runs off of 33 balls. As England placed tremendous pressure on the visitors in the final hours of Day 4, Shubman Gill and Akash Deep were also removed.

Karun Nair wicket, according to Ajinkya Rahane, gave Ben Stokes and company a boost.

Following the dismissal, England’s bowling improved and became much more intense, and the fielding was excellent, according to the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders. Rahane also commended the Three Lions for their character.

During that period, India was cruising. 40-odd for one, but Karun Nair’s LBW was what made the difference between India and England. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rahane stated, “I thought England came back in the game really well and then they started bowling well. Their intensity on the pitch, their fielders, and the character which they showed was amazing.”

The 33-year-old Nair has only scored 131 runs at an average of 21.83 in six innings, casting doubt on his spot in the team. On Wednesday, July 23, the fourth Test begins at Emirates, Old Trafford.
