After being cut from the national team and left out of the India-A squad despite his steady local play, Indian batter Karun Nair has expressed his unhappiness. After a seven-year absence, Karun Nair finally returned to the Test squad for the England tour earlier this year, but he feels he wasn’t given enough chances to establish himself.
Karun Nair was called up for the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England after two outstanding seasons for Vidarbha, during which he amassed 1,553 runs and assisted the side in winning the Ranji Trophy. He lost his spot in the home series against the West Indies, though, after scoring 205 runs in eight innings at an average of 25.62. He was eventually excluded from the India-A team for the forthcoming two-match red-ball series against South Africa-A.
Following his undefeated 174 against Goa in the current Ranji Trophy, Karun Nair acknowledged that the omission caused him great pain.
I would prefer not to discuss some of the goals I have set for myself. However, winning games for the team would be the main objective. Being dropped is really disheartening, but I know that over the last two years of playing domestic cricket, I deserve to be there. While others may hold other views, I believe that I am deserving of much better treatment,” Karun Nair stated, as reported by the Times of India.
The former India batsman is hopeful that his bat speaks for itself and that he returns to the national setup as quickly as possible in spite of the setback.
Some members of the [Indian] team have had fruitful discussions with me regarding their feelings. That’s all. Yes, it enters the mind. The second idea, however, would be to carry out your duties, which include scoring runs and allowing others to express their ideas. Really, what can I aim for next? Playing for the nation is all I want to do. The next step would be to try to win games for the team you are playing for if you are unable to accomplish that,” he continued.
