Vijay Madyalkar, Karun Nair‘s childhood coach, believes the former should be included in India’s 15-man squad for the forthcoming two-match series against the West Indies. After a lacklustre England trip during which he managed just 205 runs in eight innings, Nair was dismissed.
After all the runs he had amassed in the local circuit, Madyalkar believed that Karun Nair deserved an opportunity to show his abilities in Indian conditions, which resulted in his return to the national team after more than eight years. He was deemed “best-suited for Indian conditions” for the time being by his coach.
“I was really sorry for him. I think he should have been given another chance. But once more, the decision rests with the selectors. They have different ways of thinking. In difficult circumstances in England, he was given a chance. He did the best he could under such circumstances. Prior to his return, he amassed all those runs in India. They ought to have given him an opportunity in India, in my opinion. Right now, he works best under Indian settings. According to India Today, Madyalkar said, “The conditions were not always easy for batting in England.”
Not being picked for India’s forthcoming red-ball series, Madyalkar said, will only strengthen his mental fortitude to face more difficult tasks in the future.
A century during the England series might have improved Karun Nair chances of making the side against the Windies, the coach acknowledged.
He felt at ease when performing there. He had participated in the England County League for two seasons. The huge hundred didn’t arrive, that’s all. However, he participated in important collaborations during the series. Now he will be more hungry. As a cricket player, you grow a lot when you experience highs and lows every season. He finds it easier to demonstrate his appetite and to prepare properly as a result. He will only get more powerful. That’s something he possesses. He’s eager to go again,” he continued.
Karun Nair has so far represented India in 12 international games (10 Tests and 2 ODIs). The 33-year-old is anticipated to benefit slightly from home conditions and familiar faces after returning to Karnataka ahead of the forthcoming domestic season after spending two seasons at Vidarbha.
