Karun Nair and Sai Sudharsan are in the running for a spot in the Test squad.

Due to their strong performances during the previous domestic season, Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair are probably going to receive spots.

Karun Nair, who scored 863 runs in nine Ranji Trophy games with four hundreds and 779 runs in eight Vijay Hazare Trophy innings with five hundreds, was a prolific scorer in the domestic circuit and might be included in the team, according to Cricbuzz.

As anticipated, Shubman Gill will be selected captain of the Indian red-ball team, and there won’t be any last-minute changes made to the team for the forthcoming tour of England. In the five-Test away series against England in June and July, the 25-year-old Punjab batsman, who is Rohit Sharma’s vice-captain in the ODIs, will skipper the team. When the national selection committee meets in Mumbai on Saturday, May 24, the announcement is anticipated.

The team will essentially consist of the same players who travelled to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between November and January, with the exception of a few strange new names. Naturally, the two seniors who just declared their retirement from the game’s longest format, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, will not be included in the squad.

The Vidarbha batsman, who led the state team to second place in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Ranji Trophy, has already been added to the India A team that will go for England in a few days. It is anticipated that he will also be enlisted in the senior team.

With 638 runs, Sudharsan (23), the IPL’s top run scorer right now, is also anticipated to secure a spot. He is expected to be included in the senior squad as well, having already been selected for the India A team’s second game against the England Lions. The Tamil Nadu left-handed batter has received recognition for his steady temperament and good technique, notably from none other than Jos Buttler, who lauded Sudharsan for his skill, diligence, and preparation.

It is improbable that Sudharsan, who has established a productive opening partnership with Shubman Gill in the current IPL, will open in England. It is claimed that head coach Gautam Gambhir has subtly hinted that KL Rahul will have to bat up front. If that strategy works, Gill is probably going to drop to No. 4, and Rahul is anticipated to partner with Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top. That might allow someone like Nair or Sudharsan to take the No. 3 spot.

In light of the unavailability of experienced players like Rohit and Kohli, there was some discussion that the selectors ought to consider Cheteswar Pujara (37) for a spot. However, it appears that the team management and selections are not in the mood to reflect. Sarfaraz Khan might be able to join the team, but Devdutt Padikkal, who was a member of the BGT squad, is still not entirely recovered.

Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, and Harshit Rana will be the pacers since Mohammed Shami is out, while Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja will be the spinners and all-rounders. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Shardul Thakur might also find a berth. Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel will be the two wicketkeepers, and Kuldeep Yadav may be the only specialist spinner.

Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Karun Nair, Sai Sudharsan, Sarfaraz Khan, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Rishabh Pant, Druv Jurel, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Harshit Rana, Shardul Thakur, and Kuldeep Yadav are the probable team, with a few names to spare.
