Rohit Sharma would have wanted to turn things around in the first ODI against England in Nagpur on Thursday, February 6, after having a difficult time in the red-ball format. However, Saqib Mahmood, the pacer, dismissed him after he had only managed two runs off seven deliveries.
With scores of 0, 8, 18, 11, 3, 6, 10, 3, 9, and 2 in his previous nine international cricket innings, Rohit has been a shell of the batsman he once was. In a similar spirit, former India captain Kapil Dev recently expressed his opinions about the Mumbai batter’s lacklustre performances with the willow, stating that his bad form has left the team feeling uneasy.
“Rohit Sharma is a major player. I’m hoping he gets back to his best soon.
I’m going to wish the coach luck. Getting used to it takes time. The performance of the team is anticipated by the entire nation. The team performed admirably for a while in recent years. The group seemed uneasy. The team suffers when the captain is not playing well,” Kapil stated on the Cricket Adda YouTube channel.
Despite his terrible form, Rohit will lead India in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Speaking about Rohit Sharma, the captain has only amassed 164 runs at a pitiful average of 10.93 in 15 Test innings during the 2024–2025 season. For the first time since August 2024, he played in the ODI format again. The legendary batter would not have anticipated the return, though. The Indian supporters would be extremely concerned about Rohit’s lacklustre batting performance as the Champions Trophy approaches.
Before the main event, the 37-year-old will have two more chances to win. The second ODI, scheduled for Sunday, February 9 at Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium, will be the next chance for atonement.
