Ahead of the 2025–2026 season, former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is expected to rejoin the SA20 League, taking the place of Bangladeshi spinner Taijul Islam at Durban’s Super Giants (DSG). Taijul, a left-arm spinner, was acquired by the franchise for R500,000 at the September mega auction; however, he is now unable to participate in the tournament’s upcoming fourth edition.
Despite being their best run scorer, Kane Williamson, who made his SA20 debut with DSG last season, rejoins the team after being discharged earlier this year. In eight games, the seasoned right-hander amassed 233 runs at a remarkable average of 46.60 and a strike rate of 118.87. Nevertheless, DSG had a dismal season and finished last in the table in spite of his best efforts.

Kane Williamson off-field credentials were reinforced last month when he was named the strategic advisor for the Indian Premier League (IPL)’s Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Kane Williamson increased his liberty to play in international leagues in June when he inked a casual contract with New Zealand Cricket (NZC). With the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup just three months away, the seasoned batter recently announced his retirement from T20 internationals, capping a stellar career in the sport.
Kane Williamson will reunite with a number of high-profile players at the SA20 next season, including pre-signed talents Jos Buttler and Sunil Narine, as well as Afghanistan’s retained Noor Ahmad. After their disappointing 2024–25 season, Durban’s Super Giants will be hopeful that Williamson’s leadership background and reliability at the crease can spur a comeback.
On December 26, Durban’s Super Giants will play MI Cape Town in the opening match of the fourth SA20 tournament at Newlands in Cape Town.
