Miller was ruled out of the match due to a niggle, according to Shubman Gill, the new captain of Gujarat, who made the announcement at the toss. Williamson entered the playing XI in place of the South African batter. For Punjab, Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and chose to bowl first. Williamson made a 22-ball 26 while batting at No. 3.
