One of the best batters in cricket now is Kane Williamson. Gujarat Titans hoped to get him in the Indian Premier League Auction before the 2023 season. The Kiwi legend’s participation in the upcoming ODI World Cup in India was, however, seriously questioned after he tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) while fielding in the opening match.
The seasoned campaigner has recovered from surgery, much to the surprise of cricket fans across the world, and will be captaining the Black Caps in the major competition, which gets underway on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad with a matchup against the reigning champions England. Before this opening match versus Pakistan and South Africa, New Zealand plays a few warm-up games. Williamson hopes to participate in at least one of the games to put his surgically repaired knee to the test.
“I have a tremendous desire to participate as much as possible. Basically, I just want to get better at what I’m already doing, which includes running, fielding, and using the bat in the middle of the field. Even when everything are going well, you still experience some inconsistent days. Working through those warm-up games will help me and the team get the most out of it while minimizing stress. Nevertheless, the burden will keep growing, so there is some uncertainty. The 33-year-old was reported by Cricbuzz as stating, “But it has felt pretty good really in the last few weeks,” prior to the New Zealand team’s departure from Christchurch in order to travel to India for the World Cup.
Kane Williamson responded when asked about possible fielding position changes following an injury, “We will definitely consider some of that.”
Since getting hurt during the IPL, the right-handed hitter hasn’t participated in any competitive cricket. He was a member of the New Zealand team that went to England to play four T20Is and then the equivalent number of ODIs. When Kane Williamson returns to the field after his injury, he said he would consider switching to a different fielding position.
“We’ll probably take some of that into account. Mid-off is normally where I field, and that probably won’t change. more appropriate than square of the wicket, probably. Possibly some slip, but if we don’t need one, I won’t be standing there, Kane Williamson said.
