As the first Black Caps batter to reach 9,000 runs in the longest format, veteran New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson set records. Williamson accomplished the feat on the third day of the first Test match of the series between England (ENG) and New Zealand (NZ) at Christchurch’s Hagley Oval.
By touching the milestone, Williamson also became the third-fastest batter to reach the milestone. Steve Smith of Australia was the first batter to reach the milestone in the quickest time, followed by Brian Lara, the renowned West Indian. In addition, Kane Williamson, Younis Khan, and former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara tied for third place in terms of speed after 103 games. Remarkably, Smith accomplished the goal in 99 Test matches, whereas Lara needed 101 games to reach 9,000 runs in the Test format.
The Christchurch Test match began with Kane Williamson displaying signs of class. The seasoned batter came out to bat in the first inning and scored 93 runs in 197 deliveries. Despite not hitting the three-figure mark, he demonstrated his domination throughout the opening innings.
