Sanju Samson, lower down the order, could have been a far better choice than Dhruv Jurel during India’s tour to Australia, according to Mohammad Kaif. Although Kaif praised Jurel for his century against the West Indies in last week’s first Test in Ahmedabad, he believes that Samson’s sixes, particularly against the spinners, would have been more beneficial to India in the Australian setting.
The 15-man ODI team that will play Australia in a three-match series that starts in Perth on October 19 includes Jurel. Nonetheless, KL Rahul is anticipated to wear the wicketkeeping gloves throughout the season. Samson and Jitesh Sharma, another gloveman, will be included in the team for the T20I leg.
In my opinion, Dhruv Jurel performed admirably when he hit the century (against WI). He is unquestionably the future of Indian cricket and appeared to be highly organised and little. In every game, he has the ability to score. In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Kaif stated, “But it was a mistake to leave out Sanju Samson because he is a far better choice than Jurel for that position and typically plays in the lower order, around number 5 or 6.
Someone who can hit sixes is needed there, especially when facing spinners. Sanju Samson’s strength was demonstrated during the Asia Cup. Had he travelled to Australia, he would have given Adam Zampa the maximum number of hits. In terms of IPL sixes, he ranks in the top ten, and in Australian conditions, he would be ideal at number five or six. We sometimes overlook players who have been playing regularly and deserve to be there, like Sanju, because we are too preoccupied with Jurel’s recent success, he continued.
Ravindra Jadeja is praised by Kaif.
Ravidra Jadeja’s longevity and consistency were highlighted by Kaif, who likened him to the renowned late actor Dev Anand. According to the former India cricket player, the Saurashtra all-rounder would rather work quietly and out of the spotlight.
“The “evergreen” celebrity, an actor by the name of Dev Anand, was there. If anyone after him can fit that designation, it’s Jadeja. He has taken wickets, scored runs in difficult circumstances, and quietly entered the game for many years. He is Test cricket’s top all-round player. He never gets much attention and is rarely discussed, which I believe Jadeja enjoys. His lengthy career can be attributed to his preference for working in silence, Kaif stated.
For the ODI series, Kaif said that the selectors chose Washington Sundar over Jadeja because they needed a bowler who could bowl in the powerplay to Travis Head. Additionally, the bowling lineup will be more varied with Sundar’s right-arm off-spin because left-arm spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel are already in the lineup.
The selectors believe Washington Sundar can bowl in the powerplay because he is an off-spinner, after he played a solid, short innings in England. Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Jadeja are all left-arm spinners. As an off-spinner, Sundar can bowl with the new ball, particularly to Travis Head. The selectors likely reasoned that since they already had left-arm options, Sundar should be kept as an additional option, Kaif explained.
