Kabul: January 12, 2024: The Afghanistan Cricket Board convened its annual general meeting in Kabul on January 11. ACB Chairman Mirwais Ashraf led a comprehensive discussion of the year’s accomplishments and the goals for 2024 with all of the board members present.
An elaborate presentation outlined the organization’s goals, achievements, and obstacles for 2023. The Kabul International Cricket Stadium’s design process in the Alokhil neighborhood was a significant topic of conversation.
A thorough presentation emphasizing higher budgetary allocations brought the financial health of the ACB front and center. The conversation covered the income streams from international competitions, home and away games, sponsorships, and the ICC and ACC.
In domestic cricket, a new player route comprising the Development, Elite, Foundation, and Discovery phases was introduced. Significant raises in domestic player contracts and match fees were also suggested. It was also debated whether to change central contracts and provide incentives to top performers in domestic and international cricket.
The critical role that the High-Performance Center (HPC) plays in both game development and capacity building was also emphasized. The department set out to close the talent gap between domestic and international cricket, improve player performance, run talent scouting campaigns, and implement strategic capacity-building initiatives in 2024.
There was also talk about the state of the design for the Kabul International Cricket Stadium in the Alokhil neighborhood.
The task of supervising the proceedings has been given to a committee. A number of local construction firms have been involved, and the well-known sports architectural design business “Populous” has been contacted. Representatives from this firm will carry out a free preliminary survey in Kabul and will also assist with the funding proposals and donor and investor meetings.
The board also had a lengthy discussion about Afghanistan’s next international cricket season, which will include trips to India and Sri Lanka, as well as home matches against Ireland, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Australia, and Zimbabwe.
Plans for building infrastructure, promoting domestic cricket throughout the nation, securing funding, and maintaining constructive relationships with stakeholders were all discussed, and appropriate mitigation plans were presented to deal with the obstacles that currently exist.
Atilla Kamgar, Allah Dad Noori, Raees Ahmadzai, Obaidullah Sadarkhil, Rahmatulhaq Fuzail, Ahmad Khalid Hatam, and Khan Jan Alokozai were present at the meeting. They unanimously approved the suggested changes and conveyed their appreciation to the ACB Senior Management for their efficient leadership and thoughtful planning for the forthcoming year.
