Joshua Da Silva, the keeper-battler for the West Indies, is expecting a better outcome from the forthcoming two-match Test series against Australia, which is scheduled to start on January 17. Da Silva emphasized that despite the visiting squad’s humiliating loss to the Pat Cummins-led team in the previous Australian summer, they have grown and learned from their mistakes to provide a strong performance in the Test series.
For the forthcoming series, the West Indies have called up seven uncapped players, while the team has only four players from their last tour to Australia in late 2022.
Joshua Da Silva is still optimistic about their chances despite this, having struck a century in a practice match against Cricket Australia XI.
“This year is our chance to try again; last year was last year. There will be some fresh blood joining us because we have a few new faces. It will be thrilling. Everyone is quite excited. Seven uncapped players. They are quite eager to try it if they haven’t already had a taste. Thus, The West Australian quoted Joshua Da Silva as saying, “The atmosphere in the camp is fantastic.”
The West Indies are accustomed to having a number of uncapped players in their team; over the last five years, they have averaged one debutant per two Test matches. The addition of Brian Lara as the team’s mentor for the series by the visitors should instill some confidence in them. Speaking about it, Joshua Da Silva said that the club is eager to establish its own style of play because it is a new era.
