Ashes 2023: Josh Tongue's nasty in-swinger bowls David Warner went through the gate at Lord's.

On June 28, 2023, the second Test of the Ashes 2023 began at Lord’s. Ben Stokes, the captain of England, won the toss and chose to bowl first because it was cloudy. But England couldn’t take advantage of the good conditions for bowling because Australian openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja put up 73 runs.

Josh Tongue was the man with the golden arm when he got rid of Khawaja and Warner by breaking their stumps. He did this when he saw that things were going badly for his team. After getting Khawaja in the first session, Tongue threw a fast ball that got Warner out. The 25-year-old threw a vicious inswinger from around the wicket that went through David Warner defence and crashed into his stumps.

Earlier, the southpaw hit a great fifty off 66 balls, which showed that he was in good form. He did it in style by pulling Tongue for a six over square leg, which gave him his 35th half-century. The 36-year-old batted well for 66 runs off 88 balls, hitting eight fours and one six.

Notably, it was his eighth 50 in 16 innings in England, where he has a 26.86 batting average. David Warner hasn’t been in the best shape. It took him nine innings to get his first fifty. Even though the starter didn’t do well with the bat, head coach Andrew McDonald and the rest of the team management thought he would do well in the second Test.

David Warner repaid their trust with a brilliant fifty, and he will want to keep scoring runs in the rest of the game.

Khawaja was Tongue’s first wicket in an Ashes match.

Tongue, on the other hand, was England’s best bowler because he got rid of both Australian openers. Before he got Warner, he got the prized wicket of Khawaja, who was the Player of the Match in the first Test. The Australian opener left a ball just outside the off stump. It came in sharply and crashed into his wickets.

After losing both of their first games with scores of 96, Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne took guard at the crease and moved their team’s total up.
