Josh Tongue will miss New Zealand T20Is due to injury

Josh Tongue, an England fast bowler, has been eliminated from the T20I team to play New Zealand due to an unspecified ailment. Tongue’s replacement, veteran seamer Chris Jordan, was chosen by the selection committee.

Tongue is out with an injury, joining John Turner, another uncapped bowler (in T20Is). This summer, he played in two Tests at Lord’s (against Ireland and Australia) and returned 10 wickets at 25.7, giving him an outstanding start to his Test career. He was anticipated to play a role in each of the four games of the series as England prepared to defend their T20 crown in the West Indies and the United States in 2019.

Jos Buttler, the captain of England’s white-ball team, stated, “The T20 squad has been selected with a view to having a look at a few other people. “That has also been told to Mills and Jordan. By exposing certain people to international cricket, we hope to increase the talent pool and gauge how they are doing.

In short-form cricket, death bowling is obviously a major focus, so we want to evaluate where some players are at and give them an opportunity. Of course, nothing is ever guaranteed, but in my opinion, every player should constantly be motivated even if they don’t feel like it.

The Manchester Originals, for whom Tongue plays, are due to play Southern Brave in the eliminator on Saturday, August 26. Tongue’s injury is also expected to prevent him from competing in the final rounds of The Hundred.

On Wednesday, August 30, the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street will host the first game of the New Zealand series.
