Josh Tongue castles KL Rahul with a beauty at Edgbaston

On Day 4 of the second Test at Edgbaston, England pacer Josh Tongue dismissed KL Rahul in the 30th over of India’s second innings with a stunning delivery. With Rahul and Karun Nair at the crease, India started the day with the goal of extending their commanding lead.

Josh Tongue bowled rhythmically and quickly at first, hitting the first ball of his over with a full-length delivery that slanted into the stumps.

Rahul attempted a drive but was unable to get fully forward; however, the ball sailed away just enough to rattle the middle stump and beat the outside edge. It was almost impossible to play because of the increased tempo and late movement.

In their first innings, India had previously scored a resounding 587. With 87, Yashasvi Jaiswal established a strong base, and in the middle order, Ravindra Jadeja made an important 89. But with a spectacular 269, an innings full of 33 boundaries, captain Shubman Gill stole the show. Near the end, Washington Sundar contributed a crucial 42. Chris Woakes and Josh Tongue each took two wickets, while Shoaib Bashir was the standout bowler for England with three.

In response, England’s first innings total was 407 runs. The standout moment was when Jamie Smith (184) and Harry Brook (158) formed an incredible partnership, adding 303 runs off 368 balls for the sixth wicket. Six batters fell for ducks, though, as the rest of the batting lineup struggled. Mohammed Siraj led India’s bowling attack with six wickets, while Akash Deep cleaned up the remainder with four.

India entered their second innings in a commanding 180-run lead at the end of Day 3. They had surpassed 350 runs by lunchtime on the fourth day, but they lost a couple of quick wickets when Rahul and Karun Nair (26), who were out in the morning session, were removed.
