Josh Hazlewood sows seeds of uncertainty over Australia pace trio's BGT stretch

The pace trio of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood represented Australia in all seven Test matches during the 2023–24 season, including three against Pakistan and two each against the West Indies and New Zealand. Hazlewood is uncertain if the three will play all five Test matches against India in the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is scheduled to start on November 22. In 2023, the trio made it clear that they wanted to play every Test match.

Due to a back ailment, all-rounder Cameron Green is already out of the series. Given that Green used to shoulder some of the strain, that is probably going to make things more difficult for the pacers from Australia. The speed trio from Australia is in a tough place because it’s unclear if Mitchell Marsh will bowl during the series.

The trio might not play all five Test matches due to the increased workload. Josh Hazlewood is aware of this and decided to focus on one game at a time.

He went on to say that if the pacers believe they are healthy enough, they would participate in every game; if not, someone will take their place.

“We did it last year, but it was most likely an isolated incident. You just have to accept things as they come because it’s not like T20 or a one-day where you know you’re going to bowl 10 overs or four; instead, you could bowl 50 overs or 25. As a result, there’s really no use in making plans for it. Play if you’re healthy, and don’t play if you’re not. The Australian cited a quote from Hazlewood.

It’s that easy: no one takes a break during a Test match, so if you’re prepared to play the day before, you do so; if not, you sit down. We have enough horses in the stable to run through a few men we know are capable of doing a great job,” he continued.
