SL vs ENG: Josh Hull of Leicestershire wins his maiden Mark Wood will miss for the final two Test matches; England is called up

Mark Wood, an England pacer, will miss the final two Test matches against Sri Lanka due to a thigh injury. Josh Hull, a left-arm seamer from Leicestershire, was given the first call-up in lieu of Wood due to Wood’s unavailability. With his 6’7″ frame, the 20-year-old is a potentially deadly weapon for England’s future pacing hopes.

His performance in the Metro Bank One-Day Club in Leicestershire’s victory was highly discussed, despite the fact that his first-class record of 6 wickets at an average of 62.75 offers few insights into the pacer’s ability.

In the England Lions’ pre-series warm-up match against Sri Lanka, Josh Hull made an impressive debut, taking five wickets in two innings.

“I received a call from Brendon McCullum last night at around 5:00 p.m. It’s a truly unique occasion. Hull stated, “I am really excited to be joining them, but it’s come around pretty quickly. I didn’t think it would happen this fast.”

“While I was pleased with my performance [with the England Lions], I never imagined that I would get a call this soon. It will be a terrific opportunity to join up and be a part of that environment because Olly Stone is there as the first replacement, he continued.

This season, in three Championship games, the young gun has only claimed two scalps. But when the Cambridgeshire native made his Manchester Originals debut in The Hundred, he reached 90 mph.

Hull is currently participating in the Championship match between Gloucestershire and Leicestershire in Bristol. On August 26, the debutant is anticipated to join the Three Lions, ahead of the August 29 start of the second Test.

England squad for final two Tests:

Ollie Pope (c), Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir, Harry Brook, Jordan Cox, Ben Duckett, Josh Hull, Dan Lawrence, Matthew Potts, Joe Root, Jamie Smith (wk), Olly Stone, Chris Woakes
