Josh Clarkson will be replaced by Will Young in the New Zealand team for the Dunedin T20I.

Josh Clarkson substitute for the third Twenty20 International match against Pakistan, which is scheduled to start on January 17 at the University Oval in Dunedin, is Will Young.

After suffering a shoulder injury while competing for the Central Districts in the Super Smash, Josh Clarkson—who was named to the squad—was declared out of the third game and was supposed to replace Kane Williamson.

Following Sunday’s second Twenty20 international match on January 14, Young will be a member of the New Zealand team. Prior to this, the 31-year-old scored 260 runs in 14 games at an average of 20, including two half-centuries, but with a far lower strike rate of 102.36. He made his debut against Bangladesh in March 2021. Selectors noticed him after he scored fifty and a hundred for Central Districts in the Super Smash. After hitting 50 off just 33 deliveries against Wellington, the top-order batsman blasted a scorching 63-ball 101* against Otago.

As the Kiwi captain returns to supervise his suffering knee injury, Williamson was rested for the third Twenty20 international. For the remaining two games, which are scheduled for January 19 and 21, respectively, the 33-year-old will be a member of the squad.

New Zealand wins 1-0 after defeating Pakistan by 46 runs.

In the first Twenty20 International (T20I) held in Auckland, New Zealand defeated Pakistan by 46 runs, marking a decisive start to the five-match series. When the Black Caps were sent to bat first, two solid half-centuries from Kane Williamson (57) and Daryl Mitchell (61) allowed them to set a massive target of 227 runs. Finn Allen, the opener, made a substantial contribution as well, scoring 34 runs in a flash on 15 balls. Haris Rauf took two wickets, while Shaheen Shah Afridi and Abbas Afridi claimed three for the captain of Pakistan.

In response, only Babar Azam (57) reached a fifty but the New Zealand bowlers’ attack saw Pakistan fall short for 46 runs. The best bowler was Tim Southee, a right-armer who finished with remarkable stats of 4/25 in his whole quota.
