Australia’s Scott Boland, a fast, will play for Melbourne Stars Academy, while Josh Brown and Will Sutherland will be part of Melbourne Renegades Academy’s squad for the Top End T20 tournament in Darwin.
Sutherland will lead the Renegades. Sutherland made his ODI debut against the West Indies the previous season. He signed a contract with Somerset, but was unable to play for the county for a second time because of a stress fracture to his back, which he has been rehabilitating from over the winter.
While Josh Brown lit up the BBL last season with some great innings, including a breathtaking 140 off 57 balls against Adelaide Strikers, he was attracted away from Brisbane Heat and became one of the big off-season moves.
Josh Brown debut event with his new team will be the Top End tournament; however, the much-awaited pairing with Jake Fraser-McGurk will have to wait until the BBL in December.
Marcus Harris, the Victoria opener who is without a BBL contract, and Kane Richardson are also members of the Renegades. Harris was a late substitution when he made his debut for the Perth Scorchers in the Eliminator final of the previous season.
Boland, meanwhile, has been called up to the Stars academy team for the competition, where he will coach bowling as well as play a dual role. If Boland participates, it will be his first time playing cricket in a competition since an injury to his heel ended a county agreement he was in April with Durham.
Hilton Cartwright, a member of Stars’ BBL team, has also contributed his experience.
The Top End T20 includes the Stars and Renegades academy teams, as well as the Adelaide Strikers, Perth Scorchers, Tasmania, ACT Comets, Pakistan A, and a Bangladesh High Performance team.
