Jos Buttler, the England white-ball captain, will not be available for their forthcoming Twenty20 International series against Australia. A calf issue has forced the standout hitter out of the series. Due to the injury, the 33-year-old was unable to participate in The Hundred 2024. It is unclear if he will be able to play in the ODI series against Australia.
The star player, Jos Buttler, took to Instagram to express his emotions on the news that he would miss the Twenty20 International series against Australia.
Buttler posted on his Instagram account, “Frustrating to have a setback with the injury but working hard to get it right.” It’s important to remember that Buttler last competed in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where India emerged victorious and defeated England in the semifinals. Buttler was England’s leading scorer in the competition, amassing 214 runs in seven innings.
Though they will be sorely missed, England will be hoping to get as much use as possible out of the batsmen in the lineup for the T20I series against Australia.
For the Australia T20Is, Phil Salt will captain England.
In lieu of Buttler, England selected ace batter Phil Salt to lead the team in the Twenty20 International series against Australia. All-rounder Jamie Overton was included in the team as his replacement. Former opener Marcus Trescothick will serve as England’s acting coach for the series.
Brendon McCullum, England’s head coach for Test cricket, was recently designated the white-ball coach as well, however he is anticipated to take over as captain of the team in 2025. The first Twenty20 International (T20I) between Australia and England will begin on September 11 and the third T20I on September 15.
